Typing Speed Test – Check Your WPM & Accuracy Instantly
The fastest, most accurate free typing speed test in India. Measure your words per minute (WPM), keystrokes per hour (KDPH), and accuracy in real time — no sign-up required.
What Does Your Typing Speed Test Measure?
TypeExam's typing speed test measures three core metrics that government exam boards use to evaluate typing proficiency.
Gross WPM
Your raw typing speed — total characters typed ÷ 5 ÷ minutes elapsed. Tells you how fast you can type without accounting for errors.
Net WPM
Gross WPM minus error penalty. This is the number that counts for government exams. Net WPM = (Correct chars ÷ 5 ÷ min).
Accuracy %
Correct keystrokes ÷ total keystrokes × 100. Most government exams require ≥ 90–95% accuracy in addition to speed.

How to Improve Your Typing Speed Quickly
Benchmark Your Current Speed
Take a free 5-minute test to establish your baseline WPM. Most beginners start between 20–30 WPM.
Focus on Accuracy First
Use the 10-finger touch typing method. Slow down until your accuracy reaches 95%, then gradually increase speed.
Daily 20-Minute Practice
Consistent short sessions beat occasional long sessions. 20 minutes daily for 30 days typically doubles your WPM.
Use Exam-Pattern Passages
Practice with official-style paragraphs rather than random text to simulate exam conditions.
Take Weekly Speed Tests
Track your WPM progress weekly. TypeExam's dashboard shows your improvement curve automatically.
Understanding Your Typing Speed Test Results
When you complete a typing speed test, your result shows three numbers: Gross WPM, Net WPM, and Accuracy percentage. Understanding what each means helps you focus your improvement on the right areas.
Gross WPM is your raw typing speed — every word typed regardless of errors. Net WPM is your gross WPM minus a penalty for errors (typically 1 WPM deducted per error minute). Accuracy is the percentage of correctly typed characters out of total characters typed. When Gross WPM and Net WPM are close together (less than 2 WPM gap), you are a high-accuracy typist — this is the goal. When they diverge significantly, errors are your main limiting factor.
For government exam candidates, the most relevant metric is KDPH (Key Depressions Per Hour), which is simply net keystrokes per hour. TypeExam automatically converts your WPM result to KDPH so you can compare directly to SSC, RRB, and state exam thresholds. Start with the free typing speed test to get your baseline today.
